I contacted Jonathan who runs a fascinating shop in Leek called Housey House. "Shop" doesn't capture it; it's more like a theme park of curiosities. The shop is on the main road and whenever you walk or drive past it, you can't help but notice the ceramic, life-sized animals (gorillas, giraffes, tigers) outside. The window is stuffed with antique road signs and other items that I've just not seen anywhere else. If the inside of his shop is anywhere near as interesting as the outside, I thought, this would make an interesting challenge for an environmental portrait. Indeed it was. It was like walking into an unwritten chapter in Alice in Wonderland.
